I have never heard of this. I figured someone could get some use out of this.

They work good if you have a continuous flow of water such as a creek. They aren't real efficient. 100 gallons of water flowing through it to pump about 20 of those gallons. If I remember correctly the minimum fall is about 2 feet. But a little stream flowing off a hillside can pump a lot of water very cheaply.
