I would really like to have a calf warmer on the place. Like the blue plastic ones at TSC for $500, but hate to spend the $500. Anyone have EASY instructions on how to build one? Keep in mind my mechanical ability is very limited  I was thinking maybe a dog house design, peaked roof, with a couple heat lamps? What do you all have? What works? What do you suggest?

Dee,

I look around for old fibreglass water tanks that have sprung leaks. The farmers are often glad just to have someone cart it away. The little fellas can be used as calf boxes with heat lamps (or small electric ceramic heaters) in them, and the bigger units I use as shelters. 7 or 8 young calves will easily cram themselves into one, and they stay toasty. I'm partial to the black ones as they attract a little more sun and heat. The plastic bee huts are also nice as they have no bottoms. Its very easy to roll them over, remove the dirty straw and put them back into place.
