How much faster is a pulled disc mower or moco?

Right now I'm running a 3 point disc mower around 9' wide. I see where most mower conditioners or pull type disc mowers are around 10.5'. How much quicker are they and easier to turn? What width are you guys running?

This is one of those "it depends" kind of deals. For small irregualr shaped fields it takes forwever with a pull type unless you're willing to leave a lot in the corners/turns.

I have ran both and prefer the moco over a 3pt any day as for leaving excess in the corners I don't have a problem but I also run hyd swing tongues on mine so I can move the mower in and out when making corners

I was thinking about going to a center pivot model but have decided to just go with a self propelled machine next time

Better watch it. A swather will spoil your wife so bad you'll never get a chance to drive it.

What's the difference between center pivot and hydraulic swing tongues? Most everyone up here runs 3 point disc mowers and that's all I've ever used so I don't know much about them.

some brands have a hydraulic moveable tongue but you have to lock it in position when mowing

on the NH and Hesston and I beleive JD you can move the machine in and out as you are mowing because of the cv joints in the driveline
a center pivot the tongue attaches in the middle of the mower where you can mow either on the left of the tracor, the right of the tractor or behind the tractor if in a big field you can drive with the mower on your right then get to the end and turn around and have the mower on your left

you won't see many center pivots less than 14ft I think Hesston makes one with a 12' 6" cut

Since she does everything else around there I just assumed that was one of those "other duties as assigned" kind of deals

AC, what model are you running and what cutting width?

My three point NH 617 runs pretty good and is handy for getting around trees, I would just like to pick up some extra speed for when I'm in some of my bigger fields.
