I have a 3 1/2 month old massive bull calf that pinches just behind the shoulders, kinda like the grand canyon bull did. I don't like the "drop off behind the shoulder look" but this bull will probably wean at 700lbs. Can his topline change between now and yearling?

I would say that it depends. I am not going to say yes or no, but sometimes it does. :cboy:
from my experiences... the "drop off behind the shoulder" will have a lot better chance of improving, or strengthening, than a break in the middle of the back. we have had some bulls, and even some heifers that broke behind the shoulders and have improved greatly with age...

I would say that if the bull is tight hearted he would be that way for life. there would be no reason for that to change

You are right, SEC. "Pinched in the heart girth" or "Drops off a little behind the shoulder" are skeletal, structural deficiencies which will only stay proportionally the same - or get worse. I have known some breeders who will really be interested in an animal which has some negative characteristic and they will overlook the obvious fault by saying, "Well - - let's just wait and see what happens as he/she gets a little older!" Well, - - what will happen is - the animal will not get any better if the problem is skeletal or structural. You might be able to cover it up with fat and finish, but the problem will still "lurk" in the genetic background and it's calves will darned quick let you know that it is there!SEC":1kihik3f said:
