I sprigged a new field last spring and it did not cover the field due to the severe drought. I irrigated it once and got most of it to survive but there are spots where the clumps of Tifton are 15 feet apart. Will this fill in this next year (assuming average rain) or do I need to try to sprig or plant tops if these bare spots? Most of the field is no more than 5 feet between clumps but there are spots that are more bare. I plan on fertilizing it in the spring and running over it with a disc turned straight to cut the runners. Any suggestions?

Plenty of rain and a littler fertilizer is all you need....Wouldn't run the disc to cut the runners....

Just fertilize and you may have to spray weeds until it establishes itself. If we get enough rain it should cover in one season. I started some coastal last year and have the same problem because of lack of rain. I will probably have to spray weeds and bahia grass again this year.
