I have an Angus heifer I am currently weaning. How long should I keep her and momma apart to properly wean her? Thanks! Bob

We fenceline wean and I don;t know if that makes adifference or not. After 3-4 days we move the cows completely away from the calves. We keep them seperate for 6-8 weeks and turn the heifers back in with the cow herd. We've never had a calf go back to nursing.

Amen....six-eight weeks apart...some later, depends on the pair. I think that better mamas tend to hold on longer and the heifers take longer than the steers. We have two calves that are still seperated from the herd, the heifer is from a super mom and tried to nurse through the fence and boss cow lets her, another calf was put in there to keep her company...good day to try them with the rest.
