How long before

How long is it from the time milk is produced to birthing. My heiffer has a lot of milk now, is she almost ready or does that happen months before??

I'm afraid to even guess. This story has been the biggest cliffhanger of all time.If She's made a bag, and has lot's of Milk,SURELY she cant be too far off.

Generaly speaking if you can strip "milk" and not the colored water...should be w/in a day or so. With the holsteins if you saw them dripping it was 24 hours and you had a calf.

Lance, I half expected you to be ready to wean that calf by now. Whats the deal? Are you sure she didnt go off and have it up in the trees or somewhere in the pasture? Heck, I've had 2 born since you started this soap opera and the cows didnt seem to be nearly as far along as yours was.

All you can do is hang in there, and just remember the first one always take the longest. After the first, you'll realize theres not much you can do except wait it out. Good luck!! :cboy:

Could be another 2 months. It'd be a shame to strip all the calfs colostrum checking the milk wouldn't it? Have you got your OB kit ready?

I just had a calf not to long ago (see post cow hates calf) and she had a full udder for just over 3 weeks she also had clear thick fluid coming out off and on for the full 3 weeks.

I sure would have lost a buck on her calving date. A good rule of thumb is six weeks from udder to birth....but that varies widely. How about vaginal discharge and swelling? The leaking concept is pretty accurate....keep us posted

Lancemart dont feel bad about all the ribbing your getting hang in there.When we sold most of the cows and bull several years ago I had 1 cow that I kept that I was just sure she was bred never had her preg checked, we waited two years, after the first nine months gave up hope and bought another bull to replace the one that was sold.All the guys at work really gave me a hard time about the 2 year old calf wanted to know how much it weighed and if it came out already weaned lol :lol:

Not discharing , My friend from El Salvador was trying to see if she had milk, it was not really white it was watery and he stopped. It came out very quickly with a lot of pressure. How long Susie???????
