How long a breeding season

I'd be interested in knowing how long everyone targets their breeding season. We are a completely spring calving herd.

I'll start it off with we AI the yearling heifers in early April, first calf on the ground cows in late April and our cows in mid May. We leave the bulls in with each lot and then palpate about the beginning of August. Anything that is not 1.5 months or older probably will leave the herd. We want a cow to get pregnant either on the AI or in the next 2 heats.

Everyone else?

We shoot for a 60 day calving window both in the spring group and the fall group. Leave the bulls in 75 -90 days mostly because we just don't always get them out when we should. Have 2 places we don't get the bulls out for at least 4 months because the places they are at it is next to impossible to get them out except to bring the whole herd in and that requires a full day of moving cattle across the road, through other fields etc. But we still have 85% in that 60 day calving window. Sometimes a cow will get moved to the other group, but she gets one chance for that then is culled for late breed back or whatever.

45-50 days, spring and fall. Calve approximately May 5-June 20 and August 20-October 6. Catch rate is 85-95%.

If your just spring calving, a 65 day window should be your limit. Gives extra time to the heifers/young cows who might need it and culls out the absolute trash as opens.

Bulls stay year around. But, I am thinking about pulling him next year for about 60 days so I don't have calves in Dec or Jan.

We turn bulls in Christmas Eve and leave them in till end of March. This year our cows got pretty poor during the winter due to a lack of rainfall on our winter grazing, so we are debating leaving them in thru April this year. Like Lucky said, 80% are born in the first 45 days. Eventually want to start culling all cows that fall into the 20% range.

We Keep it pretty simple. Bulls go in May 20 come out mid august. Check cows and wean late oct. anything open goes.

A I everything same time around first of Dec, bull goes in 17 days later stays 32 to 35 days then out, that's 3 cycles if not bred by then they have no home here( only exception is my grandsons heifer) had everything ultrasounded last week, 1 open a 16 yr old cow that was leaving anyway, so 45 day calving.
