Empty nest syndrome. Do some of the things that you would have wanted to do when he was there but his presence kept you from. My daughter had started traveling, a week in california the next month a week in the smokeys, not sure where they're headed next. Maybe here so I can get some free labor out of my SIL

That's a hard one. But all part of the cycle of life. Rest assured, he will probably be back a time or two before he is completely on his own. It is very appealing to be out of your parents house at first, the they usually get home sick at some point.
I only raised one daughter, but I remember how it was for me to leave home also.
Staying busy will help. Hope you feel better! :D

There's too much to do and too much I wanna do. Now I am raising two grandsons. The empty nest didn't last very long at all.

Until mine finished college and married they were always close enough to be in and out of the house all the time. Still get the see one of them often but the others only a couple times a year. As long as I could hear from them from time to time and know they were fine I just never had the empty nest thing.

I felt your pain all of last week when my daughter's babysitting gig took her to the Caribbean. We kept in touch each day and she sent me photos but it wasn't the same without her around the house. She came back on Saturday and the hugs were never so warm. She will be the last one to leave our home and its going to be tough. How will I deal with them all being gone? I haven't a clue.

I was gutted for weeks after my oldest son left for the Air Force. The other two not so much in fact I liked it a lot when we were empty nesters. Youngest is back home for what will probably be a couple of years and it's pretty tuff some days.

However, on the bright side me and him have been a fence fixing machine for the last two weeks....and he's a chef so we get some good grub once in a while! :lol2:

After dinner we are headed out to shoot some trap with our 16ga SxS's so it isn't all bad having him home for a while.

My parents couldn't wait to get me out( no literally, I got kicked out at sixteen) but now that I have kids of my own and bought property close by I think their plan to avoid the empty nest is to just invade my house whenever the kids can't come over to spend time with them. A few days ago the kids had plans to play with the neighbor boys so my wife and I made our own little plans for some play time and came home to my dad taking a nap on our couch waiting for my kids to get home.

  What is it with us older folks and our naps anyway! Gotta have one, so why not while we are waiting on the grand kids, and your couch is better! :D

Good luck, I miss my kids everyday. At least they still call most everyday. Sure hope my daughter stays in state for college. And WE are not ready for grandkids yet.

My son just graduated high school and has left home this am to go to the mountains for a job (6 hrs away). I have no kids in the house now. He drove me crazy and seemed the bane of my existence for the past couple of years...but I am as upset as I have been in years...with him gone. I miss him terribly. Time has gone by so fast...I know this is a good thing...just cant get my emotions in check!

It's very hard at first. It does get easier. Then, just when you've readjusted to a quieter house, they come back and you have to re-adjust to chaos again. Rinse, and repeat!

3Way did you remind the son that you normally work up quite a thirst after shooting trap or building fence?? ;-)

I am currently not speaking to him.............he outshot me! :frowns: and rubbed it in.

Told him if it happened again he would be living in a refrigerator box from Sears.

Suck it up you old coot.
Betcha next time he'll pull out those old wire rim specs he carries in his pocket and wipe them off good before he shouts "pull". The boy will probably "Duck". :hide:
