The husband and I went to the Gulf Coast for the weekend to visit with his son. Of course, we were aware that we would end up driving 1,000 miles, spending at least 500 dollars and spend maybe an hour with him, cause he's 20 and he works and we are old and uncool. That's a given, so we make the best of it have a mini vacation.

Everything was going well of Friday night and Saturday morning, except we can't find Adam, who has had his cell phone yanked by his mother for running up the bill. He's not at home, or work and we have messages all over town trying to find him.

We check into a little motel by the beach in Surfside, which are all usually really scary, but this one is actually nice and clean. THEN we decide to go to the beach.

Now, we are beach walkers, not swimmers. Neither of us likes getting knocked down or ingesting nasty salt water. BUT! It looks so fun, here we go.

Did I mention I am bllind without glasses?

Did I mention that tequila has become involved?

Well, we splash around and have a great time. Then I turned my back and got pounded, I mean pounded. The kind of wave that will knock off your bottems. In holding onto those, I forgot about the glasses, which are now in Davey Jone's locker.

Fun's over.

I sent Steve to find Adam, which he did, after some frantic searching, and I went to bed around 5 and slept till morning. Then we spent all of 40 minutes eating lunch with the son and had to head back.

We are thinking of repeating this process on the week of the 4th. Steve will never stop making fun of me. I found my old glasses, but I am just gonna have the eye surgery and get it over with. There's nothing like having to be led around for 24 hours.

Next time we go, no tequila and no two piece suits. I'm too old and this is too dangerous!

Lammie, when you say "next time no two piece suits", by chance is there a story that you are not telling us?

You missed the part about knocking the bottoms off, huh? Not totally indecent, just that I think I mooned someone.

Guess I need to read closer and stop jumping to conclusions!
Mooning doesn't count when you are in a bad way.

The 4th Huh?

It's a big beach. I doubt I could be found. I just mix in with all the other blind idiots. You would be suprised at the people who told me they lost a pair of glasses in the gulf. We went out the next morning at sunrise in a vain search, (like I could see anything...). All I found was a slimy coconut. At least I hope that's what it was.

I had just gotten those in March! They were 300 bucks!!!!! They had the transitions lenses. Man, I am an idiot sometimes. I am going to have to wait to my once a month paycheck comes from the school before I can get another pair.

I am looking in Lasik. Seriously. By the time I get three pairs of glasses, it has paid for itself.

Tequila makes her clothes fall off . . . (or her glasses)! :P
sounds like it was her bottoms an her glasses that fell off with the tequilla.

Oh yea. I also forgot to mention that Saturday morning, we got stuck on the beach. I kept saying that we would have been better off in the truck, but we took the beetle instead. The only thing good about it was that two nice and slightly toasted gentlemen came along and, while the three of them pushed, I had it in reverse and we got it unstuck.

My kinda guys. The kind you can pay in beer. 8)

You wear glasses? Guess I didn't notice.

Lammie, when my 13 year old granson was not quite 2 years old, his mother (my daughter), and he and I went to Cozumel for a week. I was standing in the beautiful Caribbean water when that precious angel grabbed for my prescription lens sunglasses and sent them flying. Thank goodness I had my regular glasses to fall back on...altho that was before the neat clip-on sunglasses and I wound up squinting for the rest of the vacation.

Yep, nothing will make you feel more stupid than losing your own specs in the ocean. Then looking for them. When you are slightly toasted. I am just too old for this behavior, and yet I will revisit my folly about once a year, and this was my time. The Lord's trying to tell me something. I better start listening.

I really can't see more than about 4 feet without glasses.

I am so dumb!

Well Lammie, I have nothing to worry about as I drink rum.

Oh yea? Well I have a lot or rum related disaster tales from college.

I also forgot to mention that I smoked three cigarettes! I threw away the pack, though and have not smoked nor wanted to, since. I am almost questioning the wisdom of going back in July, but I will have my son with me and I'll behave for him.
