We didn't get any snow here, just 2.5" of rain followed by the freezing rain. Trees down everywhere! We lost power (therefore also water) at about 11:00 pm Thursday. Went to the kids house in town Friday to babysit for them. They were also without power but had water and have a fireplace. Their gas furnace won't run without electricity. I had cut a couple ranks of wood and delivered to them last weekend while they were out shopping - kind of an early Christmas surprise gift that doesn't cost a lot of money. We got to soak up some of those BTUs! We got our power back about 6:00 pm Friday while the temp was still in the 20s so the pump and all the water lines were still OK as far as I have been able to tell. Thank goodness for that! I hate fixing water line damage. You ever notice how they never freeze up when the weather is nice and it wouldn't be such a pain to work on them! :) This was one time being connected to the small rural electric coop turned out to be way better than than the big boy service. Don't you love how they handle PR. The local (St. Louis) Ameren UE spokesman said he wouldn't even begin to predict when service would be restored, just go to their website for all the latest updates! My 8-yr old grandson said, "He's an idiot! The people who can get on the internet have electric!" All three of our kids families in the two neighboring towns are still without power as of this morning. But life is good! All this inconvenience and everyone is OK! But it could be worse, and is for many of you. You are in our thoughts and prayers! Sorry for the rambling, but school was cancelled Thursday and Friday, no newspapers, sagging icy tree limbs are blocking our TV's satellite signal - I'm just plain bored. I normally go outside when I'm bored but with temps in the single digits now, taking care of the animals takes more than enough time to unbore me for a while! :)
