On a few other forums Im on there's big buck contests, so I thought, what the heck, why not here?? If we can generate enough intrest, we can have a go at it.

Rules (If you think of any more, let me know)
*All deer must be taken legally
*They may be taken with a bow, rifle or other firearm
*You must have a picture of the deer and a tag (you may black out your name and personal info, Its just to see that you did indeed take it legally)
*A doe is worth 5 points.
*Each scorable point (at least 1 inch long) is worth exactly that, one point.

Entering the deer:
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENTERING A DEER
To submit an entry a participant must include in the 06-07 RT Forum Deer Contest - ENTRY thread...
- your screen name
- if applicable, the number of tines that are longer than 1 inch (main beam counts),
- not mandatory but if possible include your team name to help me out.
- a photo of himself/herself with the deer Photo should show at least the entire front half of the deer or more - this is to avoid any possible accusations concerning people entering mounts.
NOTE 1: This picture HAS to show both the deer AND THE HUNTER, pics of only the deer will not be counted
NOTE 2: Picture of just the caped out head, skull plate, or skull mount will not be counted
- photo(s) that all scorable tines can be seen in. If 1 inch tine is questionable supply a photo with a measurement against the tine for verification.
- a photo of legal tag This is a MUST, no deer will be entered without a pic of the tag.
NOTE 1: The tag pic has been the #1 reason for entries not being counted in the contest - DON'T FORGET YOUR TAG PIC
- FOR PARTICIPANTS IN STATES THAT DO NOT HAVE A TAGGING SYESTEM write the following information down on a piece of paper, your forum name, date deer was taken, state deer was taken in, print and sign your name - scan or take a pic of that info and supply it instead of the tag pic

All rules are applicable to change.

If youre interested, post here.

Hope it works out and have a good day!

I think it would be more fun to just have an ongoing thread with pictures from this year's harvest. Those contest rules seem pretty uptight.

Besides, the pictures of my buck were taken in the field before he was tagged.

I'd agree, if I ever had time to go hunting.

I agree with certherfbeef about just a fun pic thread. The problem I have with big buck contests that are national in nature is that there is very, very little chance that a guy from Tennessee / Virginia etc.. can come remotley close to competing with deer from Illinois, Iowa, Alberta, Saskathewan etc.. Given all else being equal a 4 1/2 year old Tennessee buck may score 115 to 130 inches on the average while many northern deer will score 150 to 180 inches as a 4 1/2 year old.

Well that does hold true on a lot of things.....but deer are a different story. There are some really nice deer here but northern deer I've seen in pics (never had the pleaseure to hunt - yet) have so much more mass to them. Body and antlers. I guess they have better groceries up in the corn belt huh?
