hot air - in or out?

Well I wish we had AC but nooooo ..... and I'm not complaining. But we do have huge fan, so, lets say the outside air is 80 degrees and the inside air is 87 degrees, is it better to use the fan to blow cool air in the house or hot air out of the house? Which cools the house quickest? I've tried both but it's still hot!..... it is still much, much better then mud!!!! :D :D :D

We have always used an attic fan to draw the cooler air into the house and force the hot air out of the attic. If you don't have one of these they are well worth the investment and are not hard to install either. JMHO
 
We blow the outside air into the house. It seems to help to just get the air moving around a bit. We also have lots of trees close enough so that our house is always shaded, which helps a lot. We have central air but we really don't have to use it that often. It is nice to have when things get really bad, though.

If I were in your shoes I'd look into getting a window AC for whatever room you choose so you have someplace comforatable to hang out when things get downright ugly. The house I had before I got married didn't have AC so I got a little window job for the bedroom. That way I could at least get a good night's sleep. Ceiling fans help, too.
 
We push the hot air out of the house.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be political. :) :) :)
 
you can put a fan in the window to pull the cooler air in.we run the a/c about 12 to 15 mins an hour when it gets hot.an have fans on all the time.if you ran the a/c all time you could never pay the power bill.

It got a little warm over the weekend didn't it? Oh well, that is our two days of hot weather for the year. I blow the cooler outside air into the house. I make sure that there are other windows on the far side of the house open for air to be pushed out.

It was pretty warm here but it still was nice. How's your grass this year, seems to be the best here in years. Just curious, I've been spreading horse manure on my pastures for about 4 years, it seems to be working, along with a wet spring.

Air blowing on you, will feel cooler that air drawn through the open windows and pushed out. Pushing out, like through an attic fan moves the air through your house better.

Push the air out, and get a fan to move the air about inside so you get a breeze.

Depends on the humidity. They only work well if you have low humidity, like in New Mexico where they are very popular. We had them for a/c when I was a kid here in N Texas and let me tell you, it doesn't work well. I hated them, in fact.

It is better, I should think, to use the fan to suck air out of the house. I used to do that when I lived in student housing.

I wish it was in the eighties. That's our LOW temp around here in the summer.
