We are in the process of moving our fall calving herd into our spring calving herd. The cheapest way to do this with our own cattle is by holding the fall born heifers over to have their first calves at 2-1/2 years of age instead of at 2 years of age. Here's a picture of some of the heifers we are doing this with. Not concerned with pushing their weight gain. They will be plenty big enough to breed next May.

Julian if I was in your country I would breed them to calve in Jan. That way your bull calves are older for the spring sales and you can give them a little more time to recover from the first calf before breedback.

BTW heifers are nice!

3way,
AI'ed our heifers on May 5th this year to Mushrush Julian 1005 and using a Boaz T71 son clean-up. We also bred May and June born heifers from last year from the bred cows we bought in Wyoming. They should calve prior to 2 years old.
