Saw an ad in Sundays paper for HoJo calves. Would this be a Holstien X Jersey?
 
fairly vague... HoJo calves 8 @ 375#, 12 @ 525#, and 12 @ 650# and up. Starting at $275 per head.
Has to be dairy for that price, but Holstien jersey cross was all that came to mind. Hate to call and say "Hi, I was interested in your calves.....what the heck are they?"
 
There was an ad in Fridays "Green Sheets" for 2 HoJo bulls, so had the Mrs. call this AM (she has no problem with dumb questions!) The man said the HoJo's were Swedish Red x Holstien x Jersey. Don't know where they get HoJo from that cross, and why would someone breed dairy cows with such a crossed bull? Your question, Dee, has led to more questions!

I would say a red cow from Sweden. I think if one looked thye could find a breed native to an area around the world. I have never heard of one. Probly not that good of a breed for vaery many differing geographies.

It's getting to the point now that they are lumping the Norwegian Red And Swedish Red toggehter as Scandinavian reds. But the Sandanavians have also gotten a good dose of Holstein thrown in. We were looking at using some on the dairy herd but were more in favor of Normande, but decided that Jersey would probably be the most reliable and easiest cross.

dun, had a neighbor who swore the best milking cows were brown swiss/holstein. he said just don't cross the f1's back to swiss. i had a couple & they did real well.
