Who's raising hogs?
I haven't played with piggies for many years but I'm getting ready to buy Ibericos. Went up to Kentucky the other day and looked at a herd brought back some samples and that sure is some good pork!

Friend of mine had 3 small Yorkshire pigs crawl under his gate and get in his pasture . No one has bothered to claim them so he’s been feeding them out . Probably up to 125-130 lbs now . I told him if he had an extra one I’d take it .

I still raise a few, about 15 sows right now. Most I ever had was 313. I only raise Durocs now. Have raised Duroc, Yorkshire, Landrace, Hampshire, and Hereford in the past. Be glad to answer any questions if you have any. If I don’t know the answer, I surely know someone who does!

What are Iberico gilts and boars selling for? I have always thought that when I retire, I would like to have a few pasture pigs to raise on some of my woodland.

The deal I cut was
$3,100 for PB Boar and 3 PB gilts.
Feeders F1 Duroc cross $300 PB $ 400

I’ve been around them some. @Hogfarmer10 will probably have better advice.
The guy I work with, his daughter raises pb Berkshire and Berkshire X for 4H.
There’s a Berk x Duroc in our freezer now that sure tastes good!

Considering I can buy a good finished hog ready to slaughter for $300 or less what's the difference? And I will be the first to say I know nothing about hogs.

Google says they are the wagyu of swine.

A Berkshire. will marble similar to a beef. And have darker red meat compared to most hogs.

I can buy most outdoor raised feeder pigs around here for about a $1/pound.

Reckon you will get the same results off our north Ga oak acorns, as they do those oaks in Spain?

If you have oaks that are in the White Oak family I bet they will be good.

That acorn crop will not go very far towards feeding to butcher weight. The squirrels, turkey, deer and all the other varmints that eat them will still be there to help.

What I do not understand is that natural diet that they are fed. There are thousands of those type of hogs terrorizing the fields, pastures and woodlands of the south and you can't give them away to control the destruction.
