High Milk EPD's Beef to Dairy

Are we turning beef cows to dairy cows chasing high milk EPD's?

I know different areas can support different levels of milk production. My questioning is how much does the ability to produce extra levels of milk affect the cow"s feed needs throughout the year and her calf"s feed needs later on grass or in the feedlot. I know what my observations and experience show just wondering what others think.

In my breed we lowered milk production a bunch. Still heavy milkers, but the calves can handle what they produce now. In my area, poor milkers are a waste of space because we have super lush pastures all summer.
