Bred heifer got the bottom of her eyelid hooked on something I guess . . . . she can still blink and it doesn't look infected yet, but it sure looks bad. Gonna get some help in here tomorrow to get her brought up from the back 40 and sorted out in case she needs to be worked.

once I had some of those fiber glass round temporary fence posts. they come with a bag of little round clips to put the wire in.

came home one afternoon and had a yearling heifer hauling around a fence post becasue she had a clip stuck thru her eyelid.

they can do the darndest things.

we used bucket feed our bottle calves. came home one day to one that had the bucket hanging on her eye lid. It didn't quite look that bad.

That does look real bad, maybe you should take her to the vet, and see what they say-wouldn't want it to get super infected or damage the eye itself, would make that heifer a freezer pleaser then.

Vet was here yesterday. Couldn't reconstruct anything so anticipates the day may come when she can't hydrate the eye and it'll have to be amputated. She's a first calf heifer due in about 2 months. We'll see. Vet poured some iodine on it, gave it a shot of antibiotic. Here's the amazing part . . . . only cost me $54! Farm visit and all!!

The next day was when I found the 2nd calf cow aborting her 8 month pregnancy (see other thread), but not getting killed with a vet bill on the heifer slowed the sting. Has me nervous for what could be next though . . . . .

Seems things comes in 3's. That is cheap on the vet bill, everytime mine comes outs its over a $100 easy, depending on what they do of course.Cattle can do alright with one eye as well, you just have to be on the watch when u are around them is all.

The other animal aborting, at 8 months could be lepto.
