I wondered if they had been hit. Those feedlots aren’t on the high points out there. Very sad.

Yes, they've had a lot of rain and have lost some cattle but not a lot. It's back to being dry now.

There's a reason for that...only about 100' total difference in elevation around and in Hereford.

That’s a deep swimming pool if you’re not in the shallow end.

Many of those feedlots were built around playa lakes. Muck of the Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma Panhandle and extreme SW KS have these lakes. They are a low spot and water comes in from all four directions and don’t drain to any creek or river.
My Dad was cowboy boss at a large lot about 30 miles south of Hereford in the early 90’s. Ran outside pasture cattle for them before that. They would move cattle in the lower pens before predicted large rain events. If no pens were available they would put them in the alley on higher elevation. This is an event that has happened since they started building feedlots. With social media you hear more about it.
