Not really a fan. I have limited experience with him but the cows dont milk like I would like and the bulls are alittle dinky.
They also just dont slick off at all or as well as my other calfs.
In my opinion more of a show animal than a worker.

PS take it with a grain of salt different strokes different folks. I am not a big fan of 774 either of him or his sons. Should have been a steer in my book. He just doesnt work for me.

I've had no experience with him. Just figure if LaGrand is using him he must have something good to offer. Maybe I should keep quiet when it comes to Herefords.

Seen only a select few of his calves, but they looked good enough. Don't know about his daughters. Never used him.

Thanks for the info. I think I might AI him to a few of my cows next spring. I've been looking at Online and Inferno and others, but since Online goes for $300 a straw I really can't AI my whole herd to him this year. Just tryin to get everything accounted for. The misses really likes it if I get everything in order EARLY. She thinks if she werent here Id wait til the last minute... which I probably would. :D

It seems like your pretty into the angus breed, which is fine with me. But when people look for my calves at sales that I go to, I can't be just guessin that he's a good bull. In my opinion some bulls LaGrand are using are pretty nasty. I've heard some good things about that bull, but I've also heard some other things. I talked to a guy who had some problems with milking like redfornow said, so I'll make sure the cows Keno gets bred to have a pretty nice milk EPD.

I agree with you van. LA you can give me help hereford or not.

I thought the same as you just doesnt work in my world.
Or maybe I used him on the wrong cows. It wouldnt be my first time to underthink at mating or overthink for that matter.

All I can tell you, is that most devo bred cattle have very low IMF and REA epd's and most of the bulls have been used a lot and still have low numbers. I guess it would depend on what you are looking for.
 
By judging from the pic only the bull looks very good phenotypically, but taking into consideration what the other have said about milking ability I would be concerned about the low accuracy on the milk EPD. Bear in mind he is just about breed average for milk and with that low acc on the EPD he might end up way below breed average in years to come
 
I have one Keno daughter bred to calve in January. She is very correct and easy fleshing. I bought her at a sale and did not see her mother (a Schu-Lar cow, by 3008) but the heifer bears a strong resemblance to Keno. I am eager to see how she preforms raising her calf and will keep you posted.
 
Keno calves have been known to have scurs, if that is a problem, then you may want to look for something else. Seen some awfully good calves around the country too though.....
 
I have a few units of Keno that I will sell at my cost. Any one interested that will be in Louisville for the show...give me a holler I'll bring my tank.
I'll never use the stuff.

Ok, I've talked to some more folks at a sale today, and theres a feeder sale tommorrow and I'll probably talk to more people there. I don't think I'll be using Keno.

One man suggested Palliadin. He looks really solid. Like I said last year all the cows of mine that I do AI I AI'd to Online and used my bull on the rest. Cant do that this year so I just guessed I'd try 3 or 4 bulls AI instead of just 1 this year. I've got Inferno as a possible and probably Hard Drive and A little Online. Would this guy make a nice match? Anyone used him? I saw some of his calves today and they looked really nice, but the cows he was used on were also really nice... probably a little better than mine.

We've tried a number of bulls form the major studs and so far the one we like the best that's still avavilable is KCF BENNETT 774 H119. After 3 years we finally got a heifer by him and we're retaining her. The bull calves all did well for us but tended to be a little heavy in the back fat department.
