Okay folks...here she is(i hope)....you guys will have to tell me if she is my best or my worst (and yes ollie this is MY cow and yes ollie I took this picture LOL) Glad you like reds ollie because the blacks didnt turn out so good(big fuzzy blurry black blobs LOL). I know greenherefords will like her(dont worry greenherefords a good Gardiner bull fixes that off color LOL) This picture even makes me laugh...especially since its the best one that came out...but a deals a deal and I said Id put it out there for you....maybe i need to spend some time on a picture takin board instead of the cattle boards?? LOL
Heres all you need to know to tell me all I need to know...8yo...about 950#...300#calf on her. Now get to bashing!! Only a couple of rules from me...everbody is welcome to there opinion...Im not like greenherefords and ollie...you wont hear me say youve got to be all sweet and mushy and polite to play. Or if you say something mean you wont ever hear me say "put up or shut up"....I just dont think thats right because i dont think you have to show pictures of your cows to have an opinion about mine

And you can keep all that fancy cow show judge talk to yourself(except for you Dr harris LOL)...all of that ffa boy oral reason garbage dont impress me or most of the ranchers in the world. Might be a little of that kind of talk that really means something but most of it is just big words to make an excuse for placing one over another because one kids got a prettier momma that wears tight wranglers and sets by herself and smiles at the judge. But if youve got advice about traits that will make me money or cost me money lets hear em...thats what I care about....MAKING MONEY with cattle!!!

PS....please dont worry about putting her life in danger..just tell the truth. LOL Later on I might even tell you if I like her or not and why

geez, tapeworm! how high is your truck jacked up anyway?

she looks like a pretty good doer. i'm guessing since shes around and all that you like her a'ight.

Nice type little cow. Looks efficient in phenotype. Twisted muzzle or is she chewing? Can't see her udder . Have you touched up the photo? Looks like you took some mud or flies off her back. Has she got a stitch? I pretty well like all of her as far as a money making commercial cow. I don't like her back pasturns. The rest of her is ok by me. Thanks for posting her pic. Cows like her type make money. She is big volumed for her size and looks like she could live off a flat rock.

I was thinking along the same lines Beefy. But maybe old tapeworm is a 7 footer himself -- or possibly he was afraid of getting treated like some of the people papparazzi ;-)

But I like the idea of a little 8 year old 950 pounder with a 300 pound calf on her looking like she does. Maybe tape's real name is Kit. Anyway, I figure if he's kept her around for 8 years she must be doing a lot of things right and making him $. I've got a couple that are pretty much just like her and kinda wish they all were. Under my conditions they'll sure do better than 1,600 pounders.

now that is what i call a calf raiser. look at that heifer bagg on her. she will raise calves till she wont breed back . scott

Tape

You are a piece of work - but your cow is a worker in my books.

First - get off the bed of the truck and take a decent pic. I figure she would look a lot better if you had been on your knees at the same distance - and she does not look like the type to put you up on the fence.

Second - this old girl has the ability to look after herself and her calf.

Yeah, I can find flaws in her - she is not a show girl - but - if she has the depth I think she has and the thickness I think she has - along with the attitude and mothering ability - then this girl is a fine commercial worker that should put the calf on the ground and raise it to weaning time. Aftrer that it is up to the buyer/owner to take on the responsibility.

I got no probs with this one.

One question Tape , does it leave a sore spot where her shoulders rub her hooks? Sorry man, I just had to do it. I know , I know , I am a evil fool.

Not pretty enough for me.. but then I raise those nasty old show cattle. Aren't much good for anything besides pretty-ing up my pasture.

She will do Tape. Like you said, probably not a show cow, but she will sure do well as a commercial cow. She'd work for me anytime.

i like that kind of cow... usually do real well. how old is that 300 # calf?

you can post a pic of the calf if you want... i would like to see it.

OK Tape, here goes just like you asked. At first glance, I thought she could stand some more length, but decided that the depth of her body disguised the length. If she was as thick proportionally as she is deep, I would think she would weigh more than 950#, but that is just a guess based on a picture. I'm going to guess her frame score at 4, which is frankly the most efficient size animal when it comes to weaning percentage of their body weight and thriving on forage, given the right capacity. She isn't particularly elegant, but as long as she raises a good calf that will taste great on the plate, she'll do. I looked at some bulls yesterday that would work well on her IMO. I'd like to see a picture of her from an angle that would show her thickness and capacity more clearly.

She has a good udder for a 8 year old cow. Her length isn't a problem if you put the right kind of bull on her, i'm thinking of a nice red limousin. That would be my kind of calf.

Nice calf Rich. Although I would want more "gut", the pictures of cattle from England seem to look that way. Why is that? Is it because you feed more grain? Just wondering?

Cant eat gut Mike. Over here we try to breed cattle with a high proportion of high value cuts. Long thick loins and deep, well rounded rumps. Thats what makes the Limi so popular.
You are correct about us feeding more gain, these cattle don't have the capacity to eat large volumes of low quality forage. They do however convert corn to meat very efficiently and can acheive faster and higher growth rates without becoming over fat. Being a Charolais man you obviously appreciate this.

i would definitely want to be want to be on hand with that cow at calving time if breed to a bull like that. not that theres anything wrong with your bull or his cow but just thinking about that cross scares the h##$ out of me

That's a good looking little cow, she looks like the kind that weans a calf about as big as she is. That's also a good looking bull in Rich's picture but I wonder about calving ease with him.

That bull looks like some of the market hogs at the last fair...butthole in the middle of their back!
