I have to give a big presentation in one of my classes, and I need help choosing a topic. (it has to be Ag related). Some kids have chosen Bio tech, or Environmentalist vs ranchers. I want a catchy subject. Any help would be appreciated.

What about choosing one facet of the way animal rights groups are misrepresenting agriculture?

Are there any groups that stand out to you? I know of a few Like PETA and so on, but are there some that are more oposed than others. Thanks msscamp!

green peace. Can't recall the name of the enviro terrorist group that likes to set fires. Keep in mind that some groups have a real agenda that works towards what they are trying to accomplish. Ducks Unlimited and Delta waterfowl are reputable organizations. For some reason there is a difference between conservationist and enviromentalist.

what about a long running debate on these boards "certified angus beef" what is it really? A half black, beef type bovine, no angus required. A misleading marketing campaign, but a very successful campaign. For all you Black Angus lovers, you can subsitute "certified Hereford beef" same thing only red instead of black and not nearly so successful.

If anyone has any information on any of these groups, and things they have done . Sent it my way. Thanks

You're welcome. :) One that is unfolding right now is Friends of Animals, along with a few others, and the effect it is having on unwanted horses and the horse market. There have been quite a few things in the news, and on these boards, about horses being abandoned at sale barns, turned loose to fend for themselves, etc.

If you want one they will enjoy you can talk about Manure spreading and all that entails. Pictures will of course be mandatory.

Just my two cents worth
Cuz

ALF Animal Liberation Front and there sister organization ELF Earth Liberation Front. Those in the midwest and east coast, count yourselves luck that you don't have these nutjobs. They would burn a whole forest to stop a single tree from being cut down.

I work at a sale barn, and we have a few horses that have been dropped off, and left to die. They have been there 4 months, and we can't get rid of them. So we feed them, until we find something to do with them.

Well,there's your subject..

Does anyone know much about the bill that was just passed in the house on the Slaughtering of horses?

This link should get you started. It also provides the number of the bill, so you can search for it specifically. Just in case you're not familiar with the way Congress names bills, H.R. means House of Representatives. I believe the Senate version would be S-and the same number, but it's been a while so I'm not for sure on that. I know that is a sad statement, but it's true.

As I understand it, the bill not only bans slaughter of horses in the US - it also makes transporting horses to another country for the purpose of slaughter illegal. According to an article I read in the Western Livestock Journal a few months back, the way the bill is written it also allows leeway for other types of transportation - say to horse shows, rodeos, etc. - to be banned if the animal rights people choose to pursue it. Should you choose to go this route, are inexperienced at searching the internet, and need some help finding information, I would be willing to provide as much help with that as time allows. You will have to read the articles and do your own report, though. Fair enough?
