Things have been great here in OK since the move except for the fact that when I order grits in the diners I get the same look my dogs give me when they hear some noise that they don't understand.

Too bad!

This northerner likes them with butter, salt and pepper.

Bez!

That's ok. I spent a few months in Pennsylvania years ago working for Uncle Sam. I would go to a mom and pop diner and order grits every morning and they would give me that deer in the headlights look. I brought some in and had them cook them up for me. I dared them to put them on their menu and they did. It became one of their most popular side breakfast dishes. Whenever I walked in they would yell out "here comes the guy that gave us grits", then clap. I got quite a few free breakfasts for that. Ya see, southerners do rub off on some and for the good.

There's not a greasy spoon here that wont serve Grits. If they did'nt they'd close up.I like overhearing conversations here when someone is looking at the menu and wonders the difference between City Ham and Country Ham. You can tell they aint from around here. But then again, we cant all be that lucky.

ffscj,

You will have to do what my wife saw all the time when she worked at UPS and ran the shipping counter. She had several Customers who would come in every so often and ship the bags of grits to relatives out west/north etc.....

I quess when I go back to visit, I'll have to take the horse trailer and load it up with as many bags as I can. Or maybe I can make a run over into Arkansas. Surely they have 'em :D

Bless yo' po' li'l heart! I'll have 'em put you on the prayer list at church! :D

ffscj, If you don't have anybody back in Florida to help you out, then PM some of us an address we can send a box or two to you. Can't stand the thought of a human trying to make it without grits.

Either that or mixed together with the eggs.

Chris

I am going to have to try that - never even thought about that combo until you mentioned it. Sounds good.

Bez!

Yep, over easy, cut them up, mix them into your grits, salt and pepper, I also cut up my ham and mix it in there also if I have it. Bacon, I eat like toast with the grits and eggs.

ffscj, let me know when ya need some I will send ya some along. They don't keep all that long down here due to the little bugs that get in them so you don't want to stock up too soon unless you want a little extra protein in them.

cert, I my old, deceased now; Aunt would fix them for me like that when I was a young boy. Even before I was in school until I was a teenager. They were delicious. You're teaching your kids right. :)

Bez my wife says extra butter (the real stuf) salt and pepper. Shes from upstate New York.

Fried fish is just not the same without cheese grits. FFSCJ all the fellers I'm punching cows with right now are all from Oklahoma-even the ranch manager. I'm the only one of the bunch from Fla. I gotta tell you...so far my opinion of Oklahomans is pretty darn good. I'll make crackers out of em before months end. Even got all of them crackin whips and eating froglegs already!

Funny how different regions eat different combinations of food.

Around here Cheese grits are traditionally served with quail.

And.............Cole slaw is served with Fried fish.

I've seen Yankees, pour Syrup on Grits, dang! Talk about ruining something good. Whenever we fry up a mess of Fish, we always have Slaw and Hushpuppies. When we cook Quail, we always have fried Cornbread.
