I was trying to read the following market report and I understand parts of it, some parts make no sense to me. So correct me if I'm wrong on anything - I understand light supply and I understand that 10.00 to 20.00 higher means 10 to 20 bucks per hundred higher for those in the 450-650 weight range. Same with the 5.00-10.00 higher. What does four pot/loads of 725-6775 mean? Also what does medium and large 1 two pkgs mean? Also in the feeder steers I see where it says load 739lbs does that mean 1 at 739? or the entire load weighed 739?

Any help would be appreciated.

Beth.
Compared to last week, light supply of steers and heifers 450-650 lbs
10.00-20.00 higher and 650-750 lbs 5.00-10.00 higher. Demand good. Supply
light, mostly small packages of 450-700 lbs feeders with four pot/loads of
725-775 lbs offerings, near 47 pct steers and bulls, 41 pct heifers, 12 pct
cows and 45 pct feeders over 600 lbs. Slaughter cows firm to 5.00 higher.

Feeder Steers: Medium and Large 1 two pkgs 450-485 lbs 202.00-228.00;
few pkgs 500-520 lbs 164.00-183.00; small pkgs 600-675 lbs 158.00-180.00;
load 780 lbs 155.80. Medium and Large 1-2 few 400-475 lbs 179.00-183.00;
pkg thin 575 lbs 168.00; load 739 lbs 157.50; lot 975 lbs 136.50.

Beth, (4) pot loads 725-775 means (4) 48,000 pound semi truck (pot) loads with weights ranging from 725-775 pounds. Basically (4) semi loads of 64 head of cattle per load that averaged 750 pounds per head.

Load 739 lbs $157.50 means a load of cattle that averaged 739 pounds and brought $157.50 per cwt.

As far as the pkg part.... I'm not sure. My guess would be a "lot" or "group" of cattle that was not large enough to make a "pot" or "semi" load. But I'm probably wrong. They don't use the pkg term in my neck of the woods. I'm sure someone will respond with the correct answer shortly.

Medium and large refers to frame the 1 refers to muscle. 1 being the heaviest.

If that report is from this week, then good things come to those who wait.

I hope so too Bigfoot as I held everything I could. Only sold enough to pay the fertilizer bill. Figured I would take a chance that prices would get better. Still don't know if it was the right thing but the futures sure look better this week. My LRP policy ended on December 15th. Hit the bottom of the market. If feeder prices ease back up maybe I can double up. Lord knows I could use all the extra I can get.

I hope a week from now they are up $17/cwt more. But that might be a stretch Either way, I THINK we've found the bottom. Maybe.
