Help installing an O-ring

An O-Ring, in the female end of my hydraulic hook up is stopping me from rolling hay. Labor Day weekend, no place to get one but Tsc/rural king. They sell 3 sizes. The smallest two, go in easy, but blow immediately. The one that is probably/hopefully the right size, is impossible for simple minded me to put in. What am I missing?

It might be a nitrile o-ring, they are a little thinner and harder than the traditional black o rings. I had the same problem as you on a caterpillar trackhoe, the regular black o rings would fit but would only last a few hours. The nitrile ones at least for Cat are a dark red color.

This is just a little black o-ring. Can’t get it in to save my life.

I installed a o-ring in the hydraulic hook up yesterday. Went to local parts store and matched up.Mine also had a white hard plastic scraper that went in front of o-ring. I just used a twisted pick and pocket knife to replace it.

I must have the wrong one. I carefully opened a package to a female end like man, and there was only one ring. Might have to buy a male end with a ring in it. Just thought of that.
