Help America with your Junk Mail

Am I the only one getting tons of Junk Mail to buy things, especially Credit card offers? A get so many it burns me up, I use to just tear them all up then one day I about tore one up and turned out it was some old rebate check from years ago at a previous phone coop. So now I make sure I open them all just incase I am mistaken.

Well a couple months ago I decided on mailing all the empty enveloped back to them. They always Postage paid envelopes. I been sealing them and putting them in a desk drawer. Tonight I got them all out and I had 136 envelopes. :shock:

I am going to wait till the rate goes up to 41 cents then mail them.

Figure the Post Office is struggling financially, probably due mostly to emails and online bill pay.

Figure this is just my small way to pay back. MY $55.00 is not much but could you imagine if everyone sent them back empty instead of throwing away? Bet it would net the Post Office 7 figures easy in a year.

I suspect if I continue at this rate I should give them Between $100 and $200 a year.

I know I am crazy but it is therapeutic in a sick kind of way :lol:

Aplus No I like that idea, it might get into those peoples heads to stop this waste of paper, and save a tree. No I am not a tree huger. I just hate junk mail. If I wanted a loan or a credit card I am able and sensible enough to go and get one on my own.

Not to many years ago you could tape that envelope to a brick or something of the sorts and send it back. I always got a kick out of that. Don't try it now the Post Offic won't send em anymore. You can stuff everthing inside and send it back.

So they weigh it and pay more for more weight huh? This just might change my whole approach. I might even get more satisfaction than previously thought. :lol:

I never thought of that, but it's a great idea. They'll have to pay people just to open the empty envelopes. Besides, if I quit throwing them away, I might be able to reduce the days my garbage is picked up and save some money. 8)

P.O. wont take the bricks anymore. At one time they charged them for the full amount of postage.

What I hate are the credit card company's loan checks or whatever they're called. I'm worried that someone will take them from my mailbox and use them, then I'll get stuck paying for them.

Nothing against the USPS or it's employees, but there is more to it than this. Some would say that the USPS is "self supporting" only because it is a government monopoly that enjoys huge advantages that private carriers don't.

Nothing against the USPS or it's employees, but there is more to it than this. Some would say that the USPS is "self supporting" only because it is a government monopoly that enjoys huge advantages that private carriers don't.

One of the advantages is there are laws the keep other carriers from shipping letters and packages under a certain weight and size. One of the carriers, I think it was Fed Ex, got fined for violations to the law. Fed Ex took the case to court and lost.

There must be a profit in mail and package delvery; The German bank owns the post office over there.

Not to burst your bubble, but they dont pay full price for first class postage on the self return envelopes. Most larger companies purchase a postal permit which allows them to mail first class mail for only a few pennies each. They probably have as much in the envelope and printing as they do in the postage cost.

On the other hand, has anyone in here purchased a lifetime stamp yet? They cost .41 and are good forever. We are stocking up on them now, hoping to avoid the rush and forever stamp price increase after the next postal price increase, coming like in Sept or something like that.

I stuff them as full of stuff from the po as I can..Keeps someone somewhere off the streets and out of trouble,at least for a while!!
