At what age will heifers be able to breed? Do they have to be a certain %age of their mature wieght when breed to be a productive herd cow? Do they have to be on specific weight gaining diets before they are breed?

Alot of questions I know, just trying to pick out good replacement heifers.

Noramly they are bred to calve at 24 months and shoyld be at a minimum of 65% of their mature weight. A lot of people retain their biggest and growthiest heifers. The catch with that is these usually grow to a greater mature size and starts you down the slippery slope of frame creep. After a couple of generations you end up with mature cows that arent economical. They should be gaining weight when bred to allow them to settle. But there isn't a set ADG.
