Heifer Won't Stand

About a year ago I had a heifer that I took to a place where she was to be AI'd with sexed semen. They said that it would be best to let her come into natural heat. They put a radio transmiter on her and turned her out with the rest of the heifers. She did not come in, so they decided to use lute. on her. That did not work either. I picked her up and put her with a spotter in my pasture. After a month she was still not marked.
One evening I observed the spotter working on her. I stayed up the intire night watching. She never would stand for the spotter. I marked it on my calender and 22 days later same thing. The next time around I desided to go ahead and AI her. I hit her twice about 12 hours apart. I got lucky and got her bred.
Has anybody ever seen this before?
I searched the web with no results.
Do you think it is genetic and I should cull her? An awfull lot of great things abought that heifer I would like to keep, but would not like to pass this trait on to any other breeding stock.
The vet had no answer.

I don't know if you should cull her maybe as she matures she will show standing heat.I have a heifer like that also.Now that I know her personality better I can tell when she is in heat.But at first she would just seclude herself from the group and bawl for hours.And to breed her we just time bred her with no heat detected.She caught and just calved last month.She has had her first heat since and did not show it .I thought she was acting a little off so I took her temerature it was 40.7f and when i took it again in the evening to see if she needs some meds it was back to normal 38.6f and she was back to her old self again.Two days later I saw that she had bled off so she was in heat earlier with no obvious signs.I will not get rid of her I just have to be on the ball more so next heat I can rebreed her.

you might see if getting bred and having the calf change her attitude and willingness to stand some. I've seen many females have "attitude adjustments" after having a calf. I've seen it calm them down a lot, or the opposite and they become more irritable, among other things. Maybe after having this first calf she'll calm down some in the pasture and make heat detection a more possible or easier.

Sure hope you are right. I,ve got a lot invested but still don,t want to breed problems into my herd. It will be a few years before I will know that, and thats if she has a heifer calf.

One of my best cows was in my AI group this year and on her first heat of the season she wouldn't stand for any of the others, so I took my best timing guess and inseminated her. Three weeks later she was acting a little nervously but didn't stand for anyone, only chased a couple of others around, bled in the next day or two, so I tossed her out with the bull. In every previous year she has stood very obviously and for many hours. I presume it's seasonal or due to some imbalance of something I haven't figured is lacking. I don't have any worries about her but am just annoyed I missed two heats!

why would you want to take a chance of introducing more of this to your herd?

if you have to go out of your way for one now, plan on doing it for them all. this is the same as spreading out your calving season or anything else that means more work for you and no extra income. choose a system (or routine) that will be acceptable to you and stick to it. with consistency, the animals will adapt to you instead of the other way around.

This is quite common and is called silent heats. It may never be that way again - or she may always show silent heats. As long as you know what to expect, it shouldn't be a problem - and it is not generally anything that is genetic.

a few years ago, i had a cow that my bull never messed with at all not sniff or anything. yet she calved every year, i seen most of them coming in or going out not her. i always thought she must have silent heats.
