Bought a heifer Saturday at the sale barn. She was one that they had sold and guaranteed open and the buyer had preg tested and several were bred, so they resold them. I had sat there all day waiting on my stock that I had brought to sell, one of which was a heifer that had lost a calf a couple of weeks ago.I've had a lot of bad luck with heifers through the years and I had no intention to ever buy one, but like I said I had been sitting there all day and let some get away that I waited to late to bid on. I had already picked up my check and I went back in and sat down to watch the rest of the sale. They sold all the old cows and bulls which is the last thing they sell, so when the bulls all sold I got up to leave and they brought that heifer in ( she only weighed 730 and was 8 mos preg. They started her at $600 and then dropped to 550 and for some reason I raised my hand a couple of times and ended up buying her for $600. I brought her home and man she looked small and I told my wife what I had done and how I had probably messed up. Put her in the corrall and gave her some hay and water and went in the house. Sunday afternoon about 4:30 I went out and she was walking around with a foot sticking out. We put her in the chute and assisted her, but it wasn't a hard pull. Perfect bull calf, it took it a while to get up, but she took right to it and except for her not having much milk everything turned out ok. (so far anyway) The calfs not very big, which is a good thing. Anyway I just wanted to pass along a story with a happy ending.
