All,

I have a really nice registered black Angus heifer that is around 8 months old. When I went out to feed this morning she was one of the last ones to come up and had a limp on her front right foot. I don't see any cuts/scarring anywhere on the leg but it does look a little swollen. I've got a pen and squeeze chute I can get her up in if need be. Should I try and take a look at it now or wait to see if it gets better or worse? She's a really great heifer and I hope to keep her for a long time so I by no means want to hold back from any treatment she may require. My first thought is there may be something stuck in her hoof but I couldn't see anything. Any thoughts/ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for all the help guys! I've treated thrush in horses for years but man that foot rot is like nothing else I've ever smelled! I doctored it before I went to work and after 3 hand washings and a shower I still had to smell it all day! LOL
