Spring is in full motion, and the kids have started to feed and prepare their heifers for show season. We went to a little day show last Saturday, and got along well. Had one end up in the champion drive! Not bad for a start!
So here goes:
This first picture is a 3/4 bull, sired by Head's Up (Upgrade son) and his dam is a Pacesetter cow. He weaned himself a few weeks ago (slipped into another pasture, and never went back), so we brought him in and sheared him off to see what was under all that hair. We need to weigh him again, but last time he was over 700 pounds (he is September born).
This next one is a May 5/8 blood, with Lock N Load and Meyer in her pedigree. We weighed heifers last week, and I do not have her exact weight but she is in the 900 pound range!
This one is one of my favorites of the show season. She is a late April PB, her sire is a bull I pictured here many times (Steel Force embryo), and her dam is a Shear Force cow. We are selling her dam in our Spring sale in May, AI bred to Iron Hide for an early September calf. This heifer won her class, and was in the champion drive on Saturday. She was in the 800 pound range...

And last, and a poor picture, but a November born heifer calf that came up to the barn, so we put a halter on her and sheared her off. She will likely be shown this summer, since she is a bred and owned for our son. So we wanted to remove her nasty baby hair and give a chance for the good hair to grow in this spring and summer.
Our cows finally went out to grass! They are in the pasture furthest from the barn, so it is harder to do heat checking... no longer watching out the window in the nice temperatures! :lol:
