I have a gate entry that is 18' wide and I have telephone poles that are 20" in diameter on each side. These posts are set 5' deep in the ground. Currently I have cheap tube gates and lag hinges screwed into post. I plan on building gates out of 2" square tube, nothing fancy I just want to beef up the entrance and make more secure. What would be the best way to hang the gate on the telephone pole post? Are bits made 20"s plus? I was thinking weld studs to 5' of 6" channel. Bolt the 5' piece of channel vertically to post to give an area I can weld hinges too. I would weld nuts on studs that go through post too....Any ideas?
