Winter is coming on and based on the other mornings low of 40 degrees I don't think my 1500 watt/5100 btu heater is going to heat my 570 sq ft
" Bunkhouse"

It is spray foamed and sealed tight. (maybe too tight)
I could add another electric heater but I'm just don't like the idea of using 3000 watts.
I've been looking at propane heaters
Vent free in a tight building doesn't seem smart to me.
Direct vent makes more sense but are really expense and the design doesn't seem all that great to me( maybe it is but I'm not convinced)
Top vent wall furnace maybe ?

Any better idea's ?

I agree. I used one for four years and they are great. Besides, what kind of bunkhouse doesn't have a potbelly stove in it? Ain't a proper one I'll say. Whatever happened to this country? :hide: :lol:

Check out pellet stoves. Good regulated, economical heat.

I've thought of that but I'm in the middle of a cow pasture in SW Oklahoma with dry grass and most of my neighbors are in grass.
One spark could burn down 1000's of acres of grass,livestock, homes and barns

Any open flame heater needs proper ventilation, In my lifetime I have had two aquaintances killed in deer cabins using propane heaters. I would go electric because of the safety factor. :2cents:

I keep carbon monoxide detectors and the heaters have low oxygen detectors but i still worry about going bed and waking up dead :D

If I remember correctly from my days hauling/installing propane, the 10,000 btu is the only approved size of ventless for sleeping areas. The ventless heater works best in looser buildings. You can get them too tight. My neighbor put one in his pump house, but it was too tight and the heater kept going out because of the safety device (which is mostly the pilot light not heating the thermocouple enough in the lower oxygen state). My brother had to cut air holes in the wall by the heater for him to keep enough fresh air for the heater to stay lit.

I would guess those were bottle type heaters that don't have any safeties built into them. It's always a bad idea to use them in sleeping areas.

You might look into the ceramic electric heaters. We use a small one to keep a 16 X 20 room warm and it does a good job for us. You can do a search for the heater and get results for several different brands. Ours is a Honeywell brand

They are all the place from great to a waste of money.

I like the mini split systems and if I do stay and build a house then I think that's what I'd like do.
Being just one person in the house gives the capability to control each zone instead of the entire house like a central unit

If you go this route, get the highest seer value, you think you can afford. It'll pay for itself. I have a split unit like that (not that brand), in my man cave.

To me that defeats the purpose. Having a hot zone next to a cool zone and vice versa.. You're trying to split hairs here Cross....quit being a tight wad and just get something good that works. You won't go broke and you won't freeze to death.

To me that defeats the purpose. Having a hot zone next to a cool zone and vice versa.. You're trying to split hairs here Cross....quit being a tight wad and just get something good that works. You won't go broke and you won't freeze to death.

I'm not a tight wad :hide:
I was thinking along the lines of 85 or 90 degrees in the off zones and 80 in the living zones

I had a double wide mansion years ago :D
