Pretty brutal here but not quite that bad. Good news is I'm off work this week so I can do what I want, when I want, at my own pace. Heck, I kinda feel like a real cattleman. :lol2:

Bad news is It's back to work next week and it's not supposed to be much better. Oh, well.

It's pretty brutal up here, not as bad as Iowa though, I've been taking to hosing stock after a worrisome day on Monday.

We in the South dont worry about H--l, we face that kind of heat every summer, and at least in H--l the heat is dry.

95 here today with 85% humidity. But that wasn't bad. What was tough was working with 200 degree water all day in the sun under those conditions.

Monday the temps were in the high 90's and humidity in the low 90's- pure miserable...
Yesterday the temps went into the 100's- but the humidity dropped- so survivable.. Last evening a cool front moved in- and the temps dropped into the low 60's...74 was the high for today- with 30-40 mph winds at times...Stopped my plans for doing some weed spraying, but I didn't care it felt so good!! :D

And the weeks forecast is for temps in the low to mid 80's- I can live with that..

Hubby said outdoor air conditioner would be up and running around November.. just about time to need the heater fixed! (Since it's preety hot out, read this slow so you realize I mean outside not inside - lol)

Miserable here, afternoon temps around 100 and lots of humidity. Animals are taking it OK so far. Cattle have gone to night shift. In the morning when I get my coffee, they are laying in the shade on the west side of the house chewing cud. When I get home, they are in the shade on the east side of the property and by dusk they are out grazing. We have to make sure and keep the water tank half full or above so the calves can reach the water. (No pond)

We have had some heat, over 90 degrees for a week with Heat indices over 100 at some time during each day. We have had high humidity also. Thank goodness it ususally drops into the low 80's at night or the crops would shut down totally. Yesterday was probably the worst, but we had a breeze all day so at least you could breathe. I have been checking corn fields for green snap and hail damage. I haven't found much of either but the fields certainly have been blown down and are goosenecking back up now. The corn is pollenating so the timeing of the heat isn't the best for that but it will be okay I think.
My Angus cows are on the evening and early morning rotation and then just find the creek and the shade in the bright daylight hours.

The hottest week we've ever had a up here was 108 in the shade... and with the exception of this year, 100 is common.. our cattle do OK in it with or without shade, but they do have nice cool water to drink.. that one really hot week I remember what I was doing.. mixing concrete in a hand mixer for a greenhouse foundation... t'was quite a week

Today was a decent day, but it still didn't get into the 90's, 4 days ago there was new snow on the 9000 ft peak we look at (never seen that before), and it's in the 40's every night.. I'm going to go into a long winter without have had any summer and it's goign to suck... alfalfa isn't growing either, going to have 2 cuts and be lucky to have much grazing after

That's OK...ponds aren't much use when they don't have water in them....

Not with they are dry ponds..I mean a water trough is still a water trough even when empty...but one used to be able expect to see water in them...now mostly all that is left is mud holes or dust bowls...
