Well, we lost Spartan last night our 3 year old Pyrenees/Anatolian LGD . He had been under the weather for the last couple of weeks and we had him on meds and anti inflams ,he actually was looking and acting much better lately and thought he was beating it. However last night he took a turn for the worse ,went completely downhill in a matter of minutes . His breathing was very shallow and you could clearly tell he was not getting enough oxygen ,so we rushed him to our vet clinic but sadly he died on the way at about 7:30 pm. The post mortem revealed he had a very invasive viral infection and his lungs could not fight it off so they eventually became completely full of fluid and he aspirated. :cry2:

Not going to be the same around here anymore . He was the sweetest, gentlest big guy(165lbs) , so full of love . He was so amazing and kind with everyone, children ,adults and all animals, cats ,birds and of course what he was trained to do watch over new born calves and all the cattle but he would become fierce to any and all predators .

Nikki love the Big Dog too, the way they would play together was something else. You would have never known that Spartan had 130 lbs on her . :lol2:

Anyways, it sure is going to be quiet around here and I am really going to miss the Big Dog . He claimed me as his own the minute I brought him home and went with me everywhere no matter how cold ,how late or how crappy the weather was . He was a really good fella that would have your back unconditionally ,just wanted you to love him in return .

I feel the need to add to Hillsdown's words. We spent a few days with them last summer and it seems like everytime i was outside he was right there wanting some affection. He was a big ole goodhearted dog and i was very glad he chose to like me.(of course i also slipped him a lot of snacks when HD wasn't looking)

Like Chippie said. Vaya con Dios Spartan. I am sure he will find some work for you on the other side!

Thank you everyone for the kind words.

3way I remember that , he especially wouldn't leave you alone after he went for his daily ritual of sitting in the slough to cool off . He had a very wicked sense of humor sometimes .

Need to wash and pack up his bedding , can't even bare to look at it now .It just really sucks !

Lock your wife and your dog in the trunk of the car for a couple of hours.

When you open the trunk to let them out, which one will be glad to see you?

That is why this farm has always had and will always have some dogs.

HD - that big ole dog is looking down at you right now - smile and tell him he was a good boy when you are packing up his stuff.

Big hug from the fat guy

Bez

Thank you Kathie and Bez !

Bez ,I am hoping I can smile soon . I would hate for him to think that he has made me unhappy , the exact opposite in fact . I looked forward to getting up first thing in the morning and have him waiting for me by the french doors to come out and start my day with him .I feel horrible that I let him down and didn't keep him safe and healthy .

HD, none of us are God. We can't always be all-knowing and able to fix everything. That is not the way of life. Hugs!!!

I'm so sorry you have lost your 'guardian' HD, he looked like such a big gentle thing. The awful weather you guys are having could not have helped much either. I'm sure everyone's going to miss him there and you will have very fond memories of the big guy.

I really appreciate the kind words . You all are such an empathetic ,compassionate "family" . Thank you for being there for me .♥
