Washington also passed legalized marijuana, I'm only 15 minutes from Washington! My plan is to be stoned out of my head for the next four years ....... And buy stock in Doritos! U.S.A, U.S.A, U.S.A. ....

Alan":1ihmqnnh said:In all seriousness  , in Washington the measure states it would be legal to be a licensed grower/producer of marijuana and sell to a licensed retailer. The retailer can legally sell less than an ounce to anyone over 21, who in turn can legally have and "inhale" less than an ounce. The hitch is marijuana is still illegal by federal law in all states including Washington and Colorado. It will never get off the ground. A few years back Portland Oregon, Multnomah county, made it legal for same sex marriage, one of the first in the nation. Gays flocked here to get married ....... Feds stomped on it because it's illegal by federal law. This marijuana thing will be a long drawn out legal battle IMO.
But to me the humorous part is I'm sure all the law enforcement in Oregons border communities have their panties in a wad trying to figure out how to fight keeping it out of Oregon. I think it's a none issue, Feds will bow their neck and fight it ....... A waste of time and money, kind of makes me smirk.

Although law enforcement was very much opposed to it, their claim was more impaired drivers on the road.
We also had a measure allowing a privately owned casino in Oregon, the Indians really piled the money in to fight that, they have a monolopy on casinos in Oregon and Washington. It also failed, I was for it, Indians don't pay taxes for their casinos at least a private casino would. Also the state has a massive lottery system, Indians have multiple casinos, we have off track betting, plus the Internet. It's not hard to find a place to lose money if I chose.
I believe this is a trend all over the USA. Funny, no one ever mentions or writes about how much money the economy is losing to these Indian casinos or gambling.Alan":3p7fwgkr said:I was wondering about the med marijuana folks, Oregon had a similar measure which failed on the ballot yesterday, and I was curious how much opposition the med marijuana folks put in. Dang--there's that 'move on' thing again. Kathie, I didn't catch the gay marriage issue. Might turn out kind of interesting, the Feds have lighten up a lot since Multnomah county tried to move on it. I can't see how the Feds can come down on one illegal issue without doing the same to the other. I would like to see how it all shakes out on both issues. My news comes out of Portland and I don't hear much about Washington, if you wouldn't mind could you keep me posted on any big moves on either issue? I'm very sure Oregon is not far behind on both issues.

The gay marriage laws have been going around and around in the appellate courts, Alan, and I imagine they will here, too. Half-dozen states have the law on their books, but I think only 2 (including WA) are via voter initiative.
The licensing/regulation/enforcement of the new marijuana law will be interesting, and expect I'll at least get to see the enforcement part from where I sit. WA has had a medical marijuana law in place for a number of years. The feds are not likely to bother with small time dealers under the new law and have not bothered with small time users since forever. They simply don't have the resources to do so. The feds have come down on some of the larger MM dispensaries -- every once in awhile, just to remind folk they are still around. I know little about the planned regulation of the new law, however, my understanding is that it will be highly taxed, from the grower, to the middle supply outfit, right up to out-the-door sales to the public, at like 25% every time the product changes hands. WA State thinks it'll make lots of money.
And I'm wondering if we maybe we should change some of our land use out at the rancho . . . maybe I should do some research. ;-)
Have you got "the law", too, Gary? :lol:dieselbeef":3kjjgzlw said:im thinkin bout row cropping now..
