Milo stalk hay would be considered a lower quality forage. For dry cows milo stalk hay would need to be supplemented with additional protein along with a good free choice loose mineral mix. For cows nursing calves some additional protein & energy + minerals would be required to maintain body condition for rebreeding.
Before feeding milo, sudan or corn hay from stressed fields you need to have the hay checked for high nitrates as this can be a problem during a drought situation. A few dead cows is an expensive way to test.
Botton line, milo hay is a viable feed if properly supplemented and no high nitrates.
