is everyone having difficulty finding good hay this year. It is almost impossible in Arkansas. i have spent about 2-3 times my normal feed bill this winter buying hay, supplementing and hauling. this drought sucks. The hay that was available this year was bad quality. anyone else going through this. Also if anyone has any hay for sale in Arkansas, let me know. Thanks

plb since the drought has effected you so badly thought I would offer you a hand in these hard times.
First you might consider your stocking rates for such events as they will reoccur.
Research pasture/grass/fertilizer management for your area as this essential in maintain a viable operation in such trying times.
Hay management is critical also you might consider selling off some of your stock to get more acres per cow which you could invest in an irrigation system for your hayfields. This would allow you to put up enough hay and sell the rest ;-) income. You might PM Cypress about the master cattleman''s class and see if you can get one offered in your area.
