Just bought a 20 ft 5th wheel tri axle float for hauling hay. It has air over hydraulic drum brakes. I don't have air on the truck.
My options are to change to electric over hydraulic. Not sure if this is cheaper or easier.
Or I could change to electric brakes. The problem is the baking plates look welded on.
Any suggestions?

do you mean Vaccum over hydraulics instead of air
if they are vaccum over hyd you can buy a box that goes on your trailer and uses your elec brake controller to apply the brakes
everybody around here has went to that set up on there V over Hyd trailers less hassle

I did a little reading, and yes it is a vacuum over hydraulic. Now after my reading I think switching to electric over hydraulic would be easier if not cheaper. The vacuum system requires modification of the truck. The electric system reuires no modification of the truck. The trailer controller I have will work the brakes.
The problem is the cheapest unit I can find is about $550. I am sure I will have a problem finding a used one.
