Sent five to the sales barn this morning. Dave says to get them gone in August, but I wanted to avoid the rush. Two were old cows who decided to become fall calvers and three were open. Grossed U$S 1,024 per head on average. May send a couple more. :cowboy:
 
Sounds like you done good. Slaughter buyer told me Saturday that they have a glut of cows and as soon as it slows down the cows will get higher in August.
 
A mix - - one small young black cow, two older colored cows that throw too much chrome, and two big ole composite cows that unilaterally decided to become fall calvers.

I can not raise a replacement for U$S 1024 but it is a great start. I think more burger cows, and retaining more heifers, is a defend-able approach if you can cover your current bills.
 
I agree. That's almost double what I gave for em. I've kept both calves out of em, by some weird accident. Suppose I could sell all 4 and stand to make a nickel.
They both raised nice calves but they are older. If they bred they will be calving soon tho. Hmmmm

Updated my cull list, but I am almost out of two strike cows. :cowboy:

Asked an old boy why there are not more cows coming to town at current burger price? He said that beef cows need to be into their owners pocket before that happens. Could happen this winter when folks try to buy hay.
 
We have a date at the plant for a semi load of kill cows. We will ship on August 5 and they get killed on the 6th. I hope the market holds or goes up. Almost half of those cows on the truck belong to me.

I am retired. I have been on vacation for 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, and 4 days. Dang that sounds like counting down to retirement.... Yep vacation..... let's see after I fix about a 1/4 mile of fence that is so old a cow hits the wire with her tail the wire breaks. Then there is that old loafing shed that the roof blew. And a new corral fence down one side of that pen. By the time I get those done I am sure there is something else to do. Oh I forgot that I have cost share to develop a spring..... it never ends. :cboy:
