I'm hoping it's contagious. (1)Cam Newton, who I've never been a fan of since watching him at Auburn, really wowed me with his interview yesterday for criticizing the fans for booing an injured player. Mr. Newton, thank you for standing up. :clap: x10
(2) The New York Yankees, who i'll never root for, it's nothing personal (except for AROID, not the Yanks fault), are paying for the schooling of the children now fatherless from the NYPD shootings. More acts of kindness and charity should be done by these billionaires, IMO. NY Yankees, thank you for standing up :clap: x10

Who's going to stand up next and speak out and support others .... finally some celebrities using their voices and pockets for some good in this world, whether it's big or small

This didn't just start.
George Steinbrenner's Silver Shield foundation has also paid for the education of all fallen NYC policemen, Port Authority, State Police and firefighters for the past 32 years, including those of all the firefighters, emts, and policemen that died on 9-11. 700 college educations currently being financed or to be paid in full by Silver Shield just from the horrible events on that one day.

One of the most accomplished NBA and Olympic athletes of all-time, the greatest impact of former Spurs center David Robinson isn’t on the basketball court. David’s commitment to the San Antonio community is the lasting image that will stay with residents of the Alamo City. Here are just a few examples of how David’s work has left a lasting legacy:

The Carver Academy: An independent school for San Antonio students from culturally diverse communities, the Carver Academy opened in 2001 because of David’s passion for providing children with a chance for a quality education. Along with benefiting many low-income, at-risk students, the school offers elementary-age children a challenging academic program featuring small classes, leadership opportunities and a nurturing family-like environment. David donated an initial donation of $5 million dollars in 1997 to establish the school and begin his vision for the 5-acre inner city campus. Upon the announcement of the donation, NBA commissioner David stern said that the “$5 million pledge stands out as one of the most extraordinary in all of sports.” Since the start of the school, David and his wife Valerie has given over $9 million to the Carver Academy.

College Scholarships: David told 94 fifth graders at Gates Elementary in 1991 that if they finished high school, he would give them $2,000 college scholarships. In 1998, David made good on his word and attended the graduation ceremony of 50 of those students, presenting them with the scholarship money.

NBA award re-named for Robinson: In recognition of his outstanding efforts in the community and off the basketball court, the NBA re-named its award for outstanding charitable efforts after Robinson on March 23, 2003. The monthly NBA Community Assist Award winners now receive the David Robinson Plaque with the inscription, "Following the standard set by NBA Legend David Robinson, who improved the community piece by piece."

Has always been one of my favorite players. Apparently a class act on and off the field. Man did he have grit too!
