Filé powder was mentioned a while back and I thought I'd show how easy its made.

Step 1 - Pull up a sassafras bush

Step 2 - Strip and dry the leaves

Step 3 - Crush the leaves and run through a spice grinder and that's it. At $29/lb I think its worth the trouble to make your own.

Easy for you , where the heck am I supposed to find a sassafras bush .

I think I can find the Filé powder at a specialty store ,but that sure is pricey . If it is 29 a lb for you I cannot even fathom how much that would cost us here . :help:

That's true. Some of the foods I've seen ya'll prepare leaves me scratching my head.

Joe I've made and drank a lot of sasafrass tea from the roots of the plant but had no idea the leaves could be used like this.

This cold weather is really messing up my crawfishing. Maybe it will warm up soon and crawfish can fill the pots.
