Beefy we are requested to wear labcoats as you call them (we call them dustcoats here) because I would say tradition a leftover custom of some aristocrat or something. I very seldom wear them. Most of the shows I go to are in hot areas and during summer its ridiculous wearing them. Been showing for 30+years and only got into trouble at one show in 2005 for not having one on. I told the upstart steward that I would take my team of cattle home if he forced the issue. The coat thing is usualy written in the regulations of the particular show.Some breeds use a standard colour. Charolais have a bright blue here in Australia.

Not familiar with Oz breeds, but if you were in my area I would say the top/black had some highlander in him, maybe some angus

the second some longhorn (possibly some holstien) and some good beefy breed

the third some charolais/limousin ????

Never heard of shaver, but I sure had a limmi x Maine cross once (actually twice) that looked just like that calf #1.

I would have guessed Angus x Shorthorn on #2

But never guessed number #3 Beefy must have ESPN ;-)
 
i only have ESPN sometimes. i thought angus x shorthorn for #2 would be too obvious of a guess though it was what first came to mind.

Yea people on here are so sneaky, makes us start thinking they are trying to trick us all the time. :lol: I am afraid to guess on an obvious Holstein Cow, you never know it might be some lost breed found only in the Appalachian mountains or the Sudan. :lol:
 
Yeah I've never really been able to figure out whats in a shaver either. I've only come across one breeder who was using them (the breeder of that steer) and now I think he's got rid of them and is just using the limos.

You don't generally see very many maine steers around here, you see an odd one or two every year, but they are always traditional red and white ones.

On the lab coat issue, the majority of shows around here now use the breed vests, which are much more practical and look heaps better. For Canberra and Melbourne shows, if a steer is purebred you wear the vest, but if its crossbred you have to wear a white coat.
 
Up here you don't have to wear anything over the top. although a white coat is preferred, and the Lowline society, asks that their vests be worn at Royals.
