at a sale a couple of groups of feeder calves had a green band in the ear and the auctioneer announced it before the started to sell them. What does the green tag stand for?
 
some sale barns have a precon/vac program. One color tag indicates weaned for 45 days, bunk broke, casterated, all shots a,d boostered atleast 14 days prior to sale ....next tag color is just casterated, and shots not weaned, or broke, etc. I would assume that would be the case at the sale you attended. One sale barn near here you buy the tags from them and turn in a signed statement from the vet, or any vaccine recipts. Be brave....ask the guy next to you ;-)
 
where you at? iowa has a green tag program for calves. not sure what all they have to do, but they are supposed to be vaccinated for certain things and i don't know what else is required.
 
If you are in Canada, the green tags may mean that they are at least 1/2 Angus (either side of the pedigree may be purebred) or a registered Angus animal. It is called the Angus tag i think.

If you really want to know cal the auction barn, they will tell you and you may be interested in participating in the program if the higher calf price is worth the extra work. Our barn doesn't have such a program, It would be nice if they did. They just announce it when they come in the ring if they are preconditioned.
