We had a great aunt that was being interviewed by the TV news from Tucson (closest city that had TV stations) when she turned one hundred years old.
She was born in the Arizona territory on a ranch that is now under Roosevelt Lake and had gone from the horse & buggy era to a man on the moon and spent all her years in Pinal County so she was somewhat of a local ledgend.
As the interview progressed the subject of her longivity came up and the reporter asked her what was the secret to her long and fruitfull life...Auntie replied that she always left the table just a little hungry...was early to bed and early to rise and always ate lots fruits and vegetables when in season and canned for the winter. She told the reported that she always had good health. The reporter was somewhat amased and ashed her if she had ever been sick, to which Auntie replied no, she enjoyed wonderful health...the reporter persisted and questioned " Mrs P., you mean that you have never been bedridden a day in your whole life"....well Auntie thought about the question for a minute and replied...bedridden, oh sure and few times in the buggy too!
