Anybody else having issues? First the drought and now the hoppers. Heard on the news today that they can lay 400 eggs and 95% survive. I picture I took a couple of weeks ago.

Last year they were thick like that. The grill on the tractor would get clogged with them. This year not so bad. There are as many but these are little half inch long green ones instead of the 2 inch long brown ones. There's nothing left for them to eat now anyway. But they will eat the screens on the house, they did that last year

I've been told two things about it. Firstly, that it gums up their jaws and they starve. Secondly, that it gums up their legs and they can't move. Don't know which is correct, but I do know first hand it works. Grandmother used to sprinkle it on her flower beds in bad years to save them from being eaten. My wife does it in bad years, too. She buys the cheapest stuff she can find. I've also read it as a gardening tip in a local newspaper.

WOW, you texans don't do anything small. Them some giant hoppers. WOW
On a side note, chickens love hoppers and will clean up a yard lickity split

I hope it gets better!
 
We have a few hangers-on around here. I think most of them have probably starved to death already.

Wonder if they like hay?
 
We had them like that last year as well. They're starting to get thick again this year but not so large as last year.
I'm thinking they're going to be real hard on my veges again this year just because of their numbers. Last year they ruined about 50% of my tomato crop. They were especially fond of the heirloom varieties, and always went for the biggest fruits :mad:
 
they were like that last year..got into my hayfield and we had a poor second cutting..:(

Ive seen afew here and there this year, but nothing like last year..you'd walk through grass and they'd be jumping all over..had some kamikaze ones living in my shrubs by the front door..
