grape plants

I planted some grape plants 2 years ago and they really just started to grow at the end of the summer last year, does that sound about right? When can I expect to see some grapes. The vine grew to about 6 feet long on the tressel but really did'nt spread out, just one long vine.

I tryed those a couple of times, but my husbands mower got them both times, no more grapes. My sister has some and I know she said if you don't trim them they will not produce, just dropped that in.
