Did they?...or did they really just have the best opportunity to maintain their nutritional intake. I am certain that Grandview has plenty of grass, water and supplemental feeding 24/365 no matter what the year is like, heat is not the real factor. Any animals in forage funded program can survive a drought. They can also ship them to the ranch which is in the zone not suffering from environmental stresses....or have two sells a year.... :o

William is a honest man and he stated that they were dry and grass was thin, so I have to listen to him, because I believe in him and his program along with Remtialls program.

I have been to the Grandview MS Operation and they have a huge commodity shed and self feeders in pastures. Regardless of grass condition they always will have plenty to eat.

But Johnny, they do not over feed there cattle to make them fat though. Grandview isn't like that. Remitall's intend to feed maybe a little more heavier than Grandview, but you have to look at the different climates those two operations are in.

THG, have you owned any of them for three or more years? Try owning a few for 3 to 7 years and see how much they cost and produce. You will have a far better understanding of true preformance from cattle you own rather than taking someone's word. What works for them may not work for you. I'm not saying Remittal or Grandview are not what you need , but is does interest me that a overwhelming majority of your poll is against them. I myself like some Remittal's but a very select few, and they absolutely must be bred to a certain type cow to work for me.

Never said he was dishonest. Anyone in the Southeast could make the same statement this year and be correct......but it's about perspective.....thin may mean he is feeding more then usual.........dry may mean he has lost all the "small" lakes... :) I doubt that Grandview is truley having to test their cattle herd.... rather he is spending more to maintain them.....just like everyone else.

By the way, any Hereford genetics stand up to the climates year in and year out, not just Remitall and Grandview genetics. That's why the Hereford is so diversely spread throughout the worlds different climates.

LFF, I am only asking if breeders on this cattle board like Grandview Genetics. I am not going against them, just asking for your opinion, that is all. I would never go against William Adair or the Latimers, you don't do that to hereford friends.

Matt, why do you talk about them as if they were your friends. Buy cattle based off of what will work for you, not the name of the owners. You talk as if you know what type of actual feeding program and breeding program they run. Have you actually ever been there. You said earlier that you were excited for the trip down there. I guess I don't understand how you are building a program that you have said was already produced. I don't get it, and better yet; I really don't need to.

I would say that Remitall has a great program. Personally they are pushing too much BW and YW to get cattle that will work effectively in my area when linebred the same way. However, I like the crosses I have gotten with the half Felton/Remitall or Felton/Stockmaster or Victor/Remitall or Bond/Remitall, but I start to see a decrease in what I like phenotypically when I get more then 50% of felton or victor and a decrease in performance in the calves. This is only based off the herds that I have seen and my small registered herd. My best cows are 3/4 remitall 1/4 victor or felton.

Matt, hey, I have seen both operations, yes I have been to both places. I have seen Grandview inside and out and the same for Remitall and I think that yes, there cattle are a more higher performance type cattle. Yes Matt, they are my friends and I wouldn't ever let them down on any certain day. I would back both programs 100%. I want to influence there genetics more and more into my program, because on the grand cows that both operations are doing and also improve my cowherd with bulls sired by either Grandview or Remitall genetics. Yes Matt, the Victor/Remitall is the best cross I have ever seen in todays hereford world. And talking with William Adair, he states that he has had bigger BWs on his straight victor cattle than with the Remitall bloodlines. So, what does that tell you? I believe that is a true factor. SInce William is and still may be the biggest victor based cowherd in the Hereford breed, I think he knows what he is talking about. Matt, there are others in the breed that I like, Sandhill, Wooden Shoe, NJW, and Mohican, and only because most of there cattle go back to Remitall breeding.

Matt, I leave for Grandview tomorrow and I can't wait to get there. It is a great place to go and see some very impressive and functional cattle.

Do they actually have olympian down there, or is he in Canada. I think he is a bull that I would like to use, but I have no way of actually seeing what he looks like

Heres another quote from you

Remitall Herefords

Dec, 2004

Remember one thing, don't use any remitall herdsires on any heifers. Just use them on brood cows only.

Sincerely,
Matthew Frye

Well?

How many head did you walk away with at Grandview?

Has your herd increased in virtual size?

How many "parts" of Bulls? (percentages) did you get? :)

Are your elbows sore?

We want details!

Olympian is a darn good bull Matt. But I am not sure if he is in Canada or in Mississippi or at Texas at Grandview Riverby. Matt, Olympian daugthers are great milking females for what I saw at Grandview.

1848, and that is exactly right, don't ever use Remitall bulls on heifers, unless you want birth problems. I think that the only bull I would use on heifers would be Online or maybe Embracer, but I may push it with Embracer, because 8E was a big bull. Route 66, now he would be a heifer candidate in my book. He isn't a big framed bull, but thick. He is smooth shouldered and great pigment. He is a all around good bull.

1848, the sale was great! I went down to chew the fat and see the cattle. That was about it. I am leaving here tomorrow, bound for VA.

I am not a huge fan of polled genetic's in general. As for Grandview's buissness moral I dont know him personally. Polled genetic's came from horned cattle. I've seen a polled bull with all horned genetics and horned bull with all polled genetic's. It seam's like polled genetic's are out of wack when it comes to performance data. Negitive CE, high BW; good WW and high YW. Or the opposite Positive CE, low BW; low WW and low YW. I know there are a lot of polled bulls with great data and good genetic's; but in general general I thin they lack on both ends. Personaly my favorite breeders are horned bull breeders. Holden; Shaw; I like Spencers bulls but have not purchased any yet. He has some really balanced traits and the genetics I really like.

Please name one good polled Hereford bull with great data and good genetics.

You know, the grass didn't look overly bad to me, but they could use some rain.
