I have mentioned before about my grandkids and sailing The last few years they have gone to Europe to compete in their 470 however with getting on with their careers they are migrating to a bit of big boat sailing and on Good Friday they left Brisbane on board the 40' Kerr boat "Kerb" in the 308nm Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race which is one of the major ocean races on the Australian calendar. The won the main handicap event after the provisional winner was disqualified they also won the QPHS handicap division. It was mostly a downhill run on spinnaker with winds around 20-25 gusting to over 35 knots so was an exciting ride. I just got off the phone to them and the said they pushed it to the max carrying the masthead spinnaker most of the way through the night, they said they had about 10 knockdowns during night outside of Fraser Island but managed to recover. My grandaughter Ashlee is on the bow and grandson Brayden is in charge of the pit. They are tough kids and don't panic in a crisis just do what needs to be done.
After Easter Brayden (23) is starting as an apprentice carpenter and Ashlee (25) who is a CPA accountant has been accepted into the navy as a commissioned officer and starts her training in July.
Here is a video of Kerb finishing the race, she is still motoring here. They did the 308nm race in about 26 hours.

Brayden does a lot of work on rigging the boat for Brett the owner. Brayden is very good at organising the layout of the sheets, halyards and control lines so that they are easy to find and work and Brett gives him free reign at that. Brett has two children that are a bit autistic and they love Brayden and follow him everywhere when he is working on the boat and Brayden loves them too, he gives them little tasks to do. Brayden is a great kid and much appreciated by Brett.
