She has a full ride at TAMU on tuition, this last one should give here enough to cover book's and housing.
She won one of the 10,000 dollar scholarship's at the 4 H roundup.
 
That is a jump start for sure! My wife graduated from college in '09 with her early childhood education degree (elemntary school teacher), and $60,000 in loans to pay back.

Give her a huge congrats. That sounds like a lot of work paying off

She visited the campus and decided a bicycle would be more appropriate. She is also in line for the grandfather scholarship, but so far she has refused and said I want to make it on my own. She worked 35 hours a week and took college courses and participated in the band. Her quote I am not smarter than any one else I just worked harder.

That's the key. I was recently talking to the Chinese lady I go to for acupuncture about her son who has been named one of four students in the state as a presidential scholar.
I asked her why she thought Chinese did so well in school. Were they smarter or just worked harder.
She said because they worked harder. Maybe they were a little smarter (?), but that didnt mean anything without the work.

You and Caustic both have granddaughters to be proud of.

Caustic, I know how proud you are of your granddaughter it makes me happy to know there is still young people coming along that will hold things together. Do not want to steal your post I have to brag a little on my granddaughter also. She is going for early childhood developemnet. She has two years down. Thus far she has made it on scholarships and grants. Today we gathered cattle she helped all day. In the morning we are hauling to the sale she told me will be off work at 11 and to wait for her on the last load going to the auction with me. She spends lots of time with me. I will miss her when she leave this fall. Only have the one grand child so she gets her way most of the time.

You have every right to be proud. In today's world it seems to be so hard to get them grown with their head screwed on straight. There just seems to be evil forces everywhere today coming at the young people.
I know what you mean my oldest one never misses calling and checking on her Granny and Pa Pa as well as dropping in.
She is coming for the weekend most young adult's the last place they would want to be on the weekend is at the grandparent's.
I have been told if you want to be my friend you had better have thick skin. Grandaughter is almost 19 and when she comes in she still run's across the room to hug us and say I love you. This is when I turn into a big pile of putty.
